Want to give your students an up-close opportunity without the stress of organizing a field trip?
There is a wonderous world inside every honey bee hive, and now your students can experience it from the comfort of your own classroom, thanks to Planet Bee’s Hive Dive Live!
Watch as our educators suit up and open a hive, explaining its organization and major players, general beekeeping tips and techniques, and answering your students’ questions in real-time through the live video streaming app, Periscope. Students will follow along with an interactive worksheet.
Due to the streaming nature of the lesson, schools from around the country can join us on this adventure! We will schedule dates ahead of time and make sure the technology is set up. As an extra bonus, you may rewatch the broadcast for any follow-up with your class for two weeks following our lesson!
All of our lessons are in line with the Next Generation Science Standards and rooted in the philosophy of E-STEM learning. Hive Dive Live meets the following NGSS standards:
K-ESS3-1. Use a model to represent the relationship between the needs of different plants and animals (including humans) and the places they live.
1-LS3-1. Make observations to construct an evidence-based account that young plants and animals are like, but not exactly like, their parents.
3-LS2-1. Construct an argument that some animals form groups that help members survive.
4-LS1-1. Construct an argument that plants and animals have internal and external structures that function to support survival, growth, behavior, and reproduction.
We've created a source doc for educators to cut and paste from if applying to grants through their school's PTA or other outside organizations. Click here to download it!
Hive Dive Live costs $50 per class.
