Environmental Programs & Community Engagement Coordinator

  • Salary Range: $60,000–$70,000 annually plus mileage for work travel

  • Reports To: Director of Operations

Position Summary


Planet Bee Foundation seeks a reliable, organized, and mission-driven Environmental Programs & Community Engagement Coordinator to support in-person program delivery, event logistics, volunteer coordination, consultant support, and local partner engagement throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.


This is a hands-on, field-facing role that helps Planet Bee school programs, corporate volunteer events, community programs, fundraising activities, and partner events run smoothly. The Coordinator will support direct program delivery, prepare and transport materials, coordinate onsite logistics, and help ensure programs are welcoming, organized, educationally strong, and aligned with Planet Bee mission.


The ideal candidate enjoys working with people, is comfortable supporting youth and community programs, can manage logistics and materials, and is dependable in a dynamic nonprofit environment. This person should be comfortable representing Planet Bee professionally at schools, community sites, corporate partner locations, gardens, and public events.


Key Responsibilities


Program & Event Delivery


  • Support and, when needed, deliver in-person environmental STEM programs, school activities, corporate volunteer events, community programs, fundraising events, and partner activities throughout the Bay Area.

  • Lead or co-lead hands-on activities focused on bees, pollinators, conservation, gardening, community science, and STEM learning.

  • Manage onsite logistics, including setup, participant welcome, volunteer check-in, facilitation, materials distribution, engagement, cleanup, and breakdown.

  • Represent Planet Bee professionally with schools, corporate partners, volunteers, families, and community members, helping ensure programs are welcoming, inclusive, safe, organized, age-appropriate, and mission-aligned.

  • Support occasional evening and weekend programs or events as needed.


Materials, Inventory & Transportation


  • Organize, prepare, pack, transport, clean, restock, and maintain program supplies, teaching materials, native bee home materials, tabling materials, equipment, and storage areas.

  • Track inventory and notify leadership when supplies need to be replenished.

  • Transport materials and equipment to schools, community sites, corporate partner locations, gardens, storage locations, and event venues throughout the Bay Area.

  • Mileage and approved travel expenses will be reimbursed according to organizational policy.


Volunteer, Consultant & Team Support


  • Coordinate with educators, program staff, consultants, contractors, interns, AmeriCorps/College Corps members, volunteers, and partners to support smooth program and event implementation.

  • Support onboarding, orientation, task assignments, mentorship, and day-of guidance for consultants, interns, AmeriCorps/College Corps members, volunteers, and other temporary team members as needed.

  • Help communicate program expectations, activity flow, materials use, safety practices, schedules, roles, and support needs.

  • Foster a collaborative, respectful, and mission-aligned team culture.


Administrative & Reporting Support


  • Maintain simple records related to attendance, volunteer participation, materials, photo permissions, survey responses, event outcomes, and follow-up needs.

  • Share event highlights, stories, photos, observations, and documentation with leadership to support grants, funder reports, partner updates, communications, and internal evaluation.

  • Support scheduling, logistics tracking, program/event checklists, file management, information systems, and improvements to local program delivery and event coordination.

  • Participate in remote team meetings as needed.


Qualifications


Required


  • Experience supporting or delivering programs, events, education, community engagement, youth programs, volunteer coordination, or nonprofit activities.

  • Experience facilitating learning activities, workshops, youth programs, community programs, or other hands-on educational experiences.

  • Strong organizational, follow-through, and logistics skills, with the ability to work independently and manage details in the field.

  • Reliable, punctual, flexible, and comfortable supporting programs and events in a dynamic nonprofit environment.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with comfort working with students, educators, volunteers, corporate partners, consultant staff, and community members.

  • Ability to represent Planet Bee professionally in public-facing settings.

  • Comfort working outdoors and in schools, community sites, gardens, corporate partner locations, and event settings.

  • Ability to lift, carry, pack, and transport program materials and event supplies weighing up to 25 lbs.

  • Proficiency with Google Workspace and basic digital communication tools.

  • Passion for environmental education, conservation, pollinators, STEM education, youth learning, and community impact.

  • Must reside in the San Francisco Bay Area and have a valid driver license, access to a reliable personal vehicle, and comfort driving throughout the Bay Area for programs, events, storage needs, and partner activities.


Preferred


  • Experience working with K-12 students, schools, educators, or youth-serving organizations.

  • Experience training, mentoring, coaching, or supporting educators, consultants, volunteers, interns, or program staff.

  • Experience coordinating volunteers, community events, corporate volunteer events, or nonprofit partner events.

  • Experience with environmental education, garden education, outdoor learning, STEM programming, or conservation work.

  • Bilingual or multilingual skills.

  • Comfort taking photos, gathering stories, and documenting program/event highlights.

  • Familiarity with Bay Area schools, community organizations, corporate partners, or environmental education networks.


Transportation Requirement


This is a Bay Area-based, field-facing role that requires regular travel to schools, community sites, corporate partner locations, gardens, storage locations, and event venues. Candidates must have a valid driver license, access to a reliable personal vehicle, and comfort driving throughout the Bay Area, including trips that may be 1-2 hours from home. The role includes transporting program supplies and equipment. Mileage and approved travel expenses will be reimbursed according to organizational policy.
