We are delighted to announce our new partnership with Friends of Flight 93, a nonprofit dedicated to the preservation and commemoration of the Flight 93 National Memorial in Pennsylvania. On September 11th, 2001, the passengers and crew aboard Flight 93 heroically diverted an attack on the US Capitol and sacrificed their own lives to save thousands. To honor their courage, Friends of Flight 93 works hard to maintain the memorial site, gather volunteer support for special projects, and educate the public on the historical significance of 9/11.

So where does Planet Bee fit into this mission? Friends of Flight 93 recognizes the important role that bees play in maintaining biodiversity and native habitat, both of which help to restore the 2200 acre memorial crash site to its natural ecological state. The Pollinator Project is an environmental education program initiated by the nonprofit to promote cross-pollination of native plants by honey bees. Currently the memorial site is home to eight hives, each of which shelters more than 500,000 bees! Working in conjunction with the Pollinator Project is Plant a Tree at Flight 93, an initiative that engages volunteers in planting native tree seedlings to revegetate the memorial landscape. To help educate youth on the importance of pollination and ecological restoration, Friends of Flight 93 has connected thousands of teachers in Pennsylvania schools to the remote educational lessons offered by Planet Bee.

We are so grateful for this partnership with Friends of Flight 93 and incredible opportunity to expand our virtual programs all the way to the East Coast and beyond! As a nonprofit, we are committed to social justice and strive to make our lessons accessible by offering them at low to no cost. (Find out more about the program here!) Working with Friends of Flight 93 helps us reach a larger and more diverse student audience that will flourish into the next generation of environmental stewards. As the scope, scale, and impact of our work continues to grow, even during the COVID-19 pandemic, we remain dedicated to providing quality E-STEM lessons for teachers across the country. The lessons incorporate a comprehensive range of teaching materials including lecture videos, scripted lesson plans, worksheets, games, citizen science projects, and interactive classroom activities. Visit our webpage to learn more about these stellar educational opportunities and watch our program trailer here!

Our deepest appreciation goes out to Friends of Flight 93 and all the organizations that have helped move our program forward in the past. We couldn’t do it without you!
