Andrew is a Gen Xer raised in the latter half of the 1900s who began working with bees at age ten under his father’s guidance and continued on and off for decades. He turned professional in 2003. In 2007, he founded the New York City Beekeepers Association and helped draft the regulations that legalized beekeeping in New York City. He wrote the urban beekeeping sections of Beekeeping for Dummies and is the author of Honey and Venom: Confessions of an Urban Beekeeper (Penguin Random House, 2020). Through Bees Without Borders, he has taught beekeeping in more than forty countries. He lives in Manhattan.
What do you love about bees?
I love the diversity of bees that can be found in almost any environment as soon as you know what to look for.
