Joelle Dugay

Program Coordinator & Educator

Joelle is a Bay Area native who has called San Francisco home for the past 15 years. She holds a B.S. in Biology with a concentration in Zoology and an M.A. in Secondary Education, both from San Francisco State University. Her lifelong love of bugs and insects originally led her to intern with Planet Bee Foundation in 2015, and she’s thrilled to be back! Passionate about science education, Joelle enjoys making STEM topics engaging and accessible through fun, storytelling, and hands-on learning.

What do you love about bees?

I’ve always loved insects, they’re the underdogs of the animal kingdom, often overlooked but full of complexity. Bees especially inspire me with the way they work together as a community - it’s a powerful reminder of collaboration, care, and the quiet strength of nature.

If I wasn't so good at my job I would be...

Breeding slugs or snails!
