Computer Science Community Educator

Role Summary


The Computer Science Community Educator serves as an instructional partner and project coordinator, supporting Lead Teachers in the successful implementation of the Coding for Conservation pilot at Leota Middle School. The role is to strengthen science instruction through logistics support, technical assistance, and lesson co-facilitation, and preserves teacher authority in the classroom. Training and support will be provided by Planet Bee Foundation staff for the duration of the contract. This position also supports grant compliance as our on site liaison for Planet Bee Foundation, and documentation to inform future program scaling efforts.


Core Responsibilities


1. Instructional Support & Co-Facilitation


  • Support Lead Teachers during in-class implementation of curriculum, including lesson pacing, technical preparation, and equity focused instructional strategies.

  • Model use of BBC micro:bit devices and Smart Native Bee Home prototypes Co-facilitate coding and data analysis activities, particularly in classrooms where teachers have limited CS background.

  • Provide instructional support to the lead instructor.

  • Support teacher professional development sessions


2. Project Management & Logistics


  • Develop and manage the instructional schedule in coordination with Education Manager and teachers.

  • Oversee and distribute materials and instructional resources

  • Lead coordination for student exhibit (May 13, 5:00–7:00 PM PST).


3. Technical & Data Oversight


  • Provide technical support for for digital devices

  • Ensure data is accessible for student capstone projects and program evaluation.


4. Compliance & Reporting


  • Track required operational metrics (e.g., training attendance, inventory).

  • Prepare timely documentation and updates for the Education Manager.

  • Support Rotary Global Grant reporting requirements.


Qualifications


  • CS/Coding Expertise: Experience supporting or co-facilitating K–12 Computer Science projects for youth.

  • K-12 Instruction: Experience supporting teachers with instructional implementation.

  • Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with BBC micro:bit devices and/or block-based coding platforms.

  • Pedagogical Knowledge: Familiarity with NGSS and Computer Science Standards.

  • Equity Commitment: Demonstrated commitment to inclusive STEM education.

  • Logistics: Reliable transportation to Woodinville, WA.

  • Safety: Ability to complete school background checks.


Location and Format


The core implementation is in-person at Leota Middle School in Woodinville, WA. However, as Planet Bee Foundation operates as a hybrid organization, all internal team meetings and professional development training may take place virtually.


Time Commitment & Key Dates


The core contract runs for approximately five months (February 2026 – May 2026, with final grant tasks in June). The role averages approximately 12–16 hours per week during the implementation period, with flexibility required for training and operational needs.

In-Person Instructional Support


Be on-site to support five (5) lessons and affiliated activities across at least ten (10) full teaching days (7:30 AM–3:00 PM PST), scheduled in coordination with the Lead Teachers

(Tuesdays/Thursdays from March–May). When in person, support video conferencing setup for designated lessons to allow virtual observation by Planet Bee staff.

Teacher Training


Participate in three (3), one-hour virtual training sessions alongside the Lead Teachers, interns, and Rotary volunteers (February-March).

Training 3: Wednesday, March 18, 2:15-3:15pm


Weekly Program Meetings


Participate in weekly 45 minute planning and check-in meetings with the Planet Bee Education Manager (before 2:00 PM PST, scheduled either Monday/Tuesday or Thursday/Friday).


Capstone Event


Be available on May 13, 2026 (5:00–7:00 PM PST) to support the student capstone and community showcase event at Leota Middle School.


Schedule


Scheduling involves working hours that align with the middle school's schedule, required teacher PD days, and regular check-in meetings with the Planet Bee Education Manager.


Compensation


The Contract CS Community Educator role offers a Total Stipend of $4,500 for the contract period which equates to approximately $28.12 an hour for approximately 160 hours in total. The total offer award may be prorated depending on how late the candidate is hired into the program.
