Beyoncé Knowles first rose to fame in the 90s, garnering a steadfast following that has stayed by her well into the 21st century. For a while, her fanbase remained nameless, until the singer herself titled her supporters “the BeyHive” at the time of her official website’s launch. Since then, the penned “BeyHive” has transcended generations, welcoming in new fans while becoming the most famously named fanbase in the world.
However, Knowles’s love for bees does not stop there. In 2020, the singer revealed to British Vogue that she keeps multiple beehives on her property, housing nearly 80,000 bees.
“I know it’s random, but I have two beehives. Real ones,” she shared with Vogue. “I’ve had them at my house for a while now. ... I started the beehives because my daughters, Blue [Ivy] and Rumi, both have terrible allergies, and honey has countless healing properties.”
Knowles also divulged that her bees produce “hundreds of jars of honey a year.” This at home honey-making method is sustainable and helps keep her daughters healthy and satisfied.
Fortunately, the “Single Ladies” singer is not the only famous beekeeper in Hollywood. Other familiar names include Scarlett Johansson, Jennifer Garner, Robert Redford, Martha Stewart, and Morgan Freeman. In fact,
many of these actors and actresses are also proponents for the #SaveTheBees movement. It is rumored that Samuel L. Jackson and Scarlett Johansson became fast friends after bonding over their love for beekeeping as well as saving the bees. He even gave her a working beehive as a wedding present!
Robert Redford is “an important beekeeper for the California wine region,” owning a 10 acre property in Napa flooded by bees pollinating grapes for wine making. Many speculate that his appreciation for this type of work stems from his residence in Utah, which is often nicknamed “The Beehive State.” Wine and honey, what could be sweeter!
Martha Stewart attributes her flourishing garden to her host of beehives she keeps on her farm in New York. She noted that beekeeping has acted as a huge gift for her garden, allowing the flowers to thrive while simultaneously helping the ecosystem. Stewart even published articles and blogs about the advantages of at-home beekeeping on her personal website.
